Rockchip’s Got Some New SoCs

Fuzhou based semiconductor and SoC firm Rockchip have announced their new platform, a successor to the RK2918 and a move away from the Cortex A8 model. The RK30* line will be based around a dual core 1.4Ghz Cortex A9 and quad core Mali 400 GPU supporting OpenGL ES 1.1/2.0 and OpenVG 1.1. Other new additions include support for HDMi 1.4a, 3D displays and 1080p video encoding as well as decoding.

ICS only made it to a select few RK2918 tablets so I suspect this new platform will be tailored specifically towards it, by which time we’ll all be ogling over the Cortex A15 and Android 5.0 Jellybean will be just around the corner. 🙂

No word yet on when we’re likely to start seeing these in new hardware, but knowing RockChip it won’t be very long.
